OYour physiotherapist will record your medical details and other information so that you will receive the best possible treatment. The Dutch Medical Treatment Contracts Act (WGBO) applies to this registration. It prescribes rules regarding the purpose of the registration, the nature of the details to be registered, the management of the information, the persons who have access to that information and the rights of the patient to inspect the information. Obviously we will handle your information with utmost care. Main points of the privacy rules are:
- Apart from your physiotherapist in attendance, a limited number of other persons have access to the information recorded in the registration. They include acting physiotherapists, other physiotherapists engaged in the practice and administrative staff. All these persons are bound by the duty of confidentiality.
- You have the right to inspect your patient file. If you suspect that information has been recorded incorrectly, you can ask the physiotherapist in attendance for mutation.
Patients’ personal details will not be passed on to third parties, including close relatives. Information will only be released after a patient has given his/her permission in writing. Nor will information be given after a person’s death.
- When you take the view that the practice does not handle your information in a correct manner, you can make this known through the complaints procedure applied by the practice.
